Moreover, the U1000 is also equipped with an upgraded Night Vision, plus a free Thinkware Anti-Glare CPL Filter. At the front there’s a small bulge housing a lens with a 140° field of view, while its largely unadorned back has just a small display with no visible controls.

This screen is mainly for setting up the camera because once it’s up and running after about a minute, it turns itself off with a reassuring American voice telling you “Miofive continues to serve”. AI - parts of the AI you can turn off such as the feature telling you to move off if the car in front has moved off and also the fatigue warning. I do find the camera to be a bit chatty, particularly early on a drive as it leaves the parking monitor mode and flips over to normal recording mode. One of the things I very much like about the Miofive dash cam is that you simply mount it on your windshield, key the ignition, and voila—you’re up and recording. A dash cam or dashboard camera, a device that’s exactly what the name implies, is a camera that is mounted on your vehicle’s dashboard.

Seven sets of the high-transmittance lens mean that daylight is filtered, and with an aperture of f/1. He’s also worked in video production for Studio 44 with clients including Canon, and volunteers his spare time to consult a non-profit, diverse stories team based in Nairobi. Also, macOS did not like the Miofive, saying that the disk was not readable despite identifying it as exFAT. It's very small and compact, so very discreet, but still easy to manage and, importantly, the red emergency button stays within easy reach.

There’s lots to like about this dash cam, such as its slimline shape, useful AI features and great daytime 4K footage. During the install of the MIOFIVE front dash camera, I found the GPS module/windshield mount to be a bit loose at the swivel joint which is used to adjust the field of view of the front dash camera. The timestamp that appears in the status line of the video will be converted to the local time based on the local time zone as determined by the dash camera based on its current location. Wouldn’t it be great if that unblinking eye was on the inside of your car, just under your rear-view mirror, and you were able to pull up everything it records in a matter of seconds? There’s a 500mAh battery on hand that will power the camera if the 12-volt battery is compromised, as it might be if your electrical system is damaged in an accident.

I've been using a dashcam from Chinese-owned brand Miofive for around a year now, in my wife's BMW, and I'm still impressed. I'm suspending my MIOFIVE Dash Cam Dual review until MIOFIVE issues a firmware update for that issue. In early January 2023, a representative from MIOFIVE reached out to me to see if I was interested in testing/reviewing their "MIOFIVE Dash Cam Dual" 2-channel dash camera.

The nighttime video from the Miofive dash cam is the best I've seen, but not surprisingly, the details aren't as sharp as they are in the daylight footage. Its installed camera lenses are also rotatable to accommodate a wide range of windshields and mounting angles. Installation is simple, getting started is quick, and you can pretty much just connect and leave it to do its thing in the background. The lens does not have a polarising filter on it, meaning that you may end up seeing the reflection of your dashboard in the camera footage as it reflects on the windscreen.During today's short drive into town, I generated about 30 minutes of video footage from the MIOFIVE 4K UHD front and 2K QHD rear cameras. If you’re interested in logging your trip on your smartphone, the MIOFIVE also has a comprehensive trip report facility on the accompanying app, which includes your speed, GPS location and driving track, along with the video which you can download and share. There's resistance to movement (like it should have), but once you move it to any position there's a noticeable amount of movement still possible when it should be firmly held in that position.

Used regularly over time to get a feel for how it works and behaves, in the real world and download videos directly to my phone. Depending on the design of your car, you may have to get a little more creative to ensure that the cable is tucked neatly away.

He has enjoyed more than 15 years in the photo video industry with most of those in the world of tech journalism. As an example, look at the vigorously flapping pigeon in this shot, perfectly exposed and frozen in the top left of the frame. The front of the dash cam is where you’ll find the camera lens that features seven sets of high-transmittance lenses for a massive 140-degree field of view and an aperture of f/1. This eliminates the hassle of using a PC or microSD card reader to access your dash cam footage should you need it. There will be a several second gap between the timestamp in the filename for the front and rear video files.
