Description

It has been home to the couple, their three children, and their dogs (including the much-beloved and now deceased Nigel), ever since. I bought a hundred 6ft chestnut stakes and quartered them (chestnut cleaves beautifully down the grain) to make 400. We do so as much as cooks and lovers of good food as gardeners, always striving for good taste and health over appearance or size. Here Monty invites us into the garden at Longmeadow, to show us how he created this beautiful garden, and how we can do the same in our own. He touches on a little of every topic a gardener can hope for, each one packed generously with know how.

It will inspire you to achieve a balanced, healthy garden of your own, that's spilling with produce and full colour all year round. History When we bought this house in October 1991, the garden consisted of a 2 acre abandoned field out the back and a much smaller area in the front covered in builder’s rubble. Seasonably cold with temperatures somewhere between -10 and + 5 centigrade, is healthy for the garden and makes life easier for us gardeners. Whether you live in the countryside or the town, Monty’s observations and insights are relevant to each and every one of us. He has written a weekly gardening column for the Daily Mail since 2004, and published over 20 books, including the bestsellers Down to Earth , Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs , and My Garden World .

Monty Don invites you into Longmeadow, a place that has become synonymous with Gardener's World, to show how he creates and tends his own garden, and how you can bring some of that same magic to our own. In winter the structure is marked out by box hedging and 8 large Irish Yews – that all fitted in the boot of car when we first planted them in 1994! With beautiful photography throughout, Gardening at Longmeadow is an essential book for gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels.Describing the magic of each area at different times of the year, Monty will explain the basics of what to do when and how to get the most from each plant. After a short introduction that includes what the property looked like when he purchased it, the book is organized into monthly chapters and filled with photos.
