Review: After I read book one of this series, I could not wait to share it with everyone I talked to: “I love when books include art history in them because it makes me feel at home since I grew up in art museums as a museum director’s daughter. Kickliy’s ink, watercolor, and oil illustrations are reminiscent of the period in which Monet lived–it is like reading art. We also create an inner critic: the model is asked during training time to predict whether a given sample is truly from the dataset or if it is one of the model’s own past generations. Music generation is a useful domain for testing the Sparse Transformer as it sits on a middle ground between text and images. His life is very similar to how artists used to live and work in 19th-century Europe, and in a way I almost feel a connection to Van Gogh, who also struggled to make it.Musnet is the sort of book I’d have absolutely loved as a child, and it’s something I hope lots of children get to read.

A few days after reading Musnet, my eldest asked if I would get a canvas for him and if he could do some painting. The Picture Book ReviewIn the stirring conclusion to Kickliy's acclaimedMusnet series, snow and ice chill Monet's garden, but even colder things await our mouse artist this winter. We landed on an encoding that combines expressivity with conciseness: combining the pitch, volume, and instrument information into a single token. During training time, these composer and instrumentation tokens were prepended to each sample, so the model would learn to use this information in making note predictions. As soon as I realized that Musnet had ended up in Monet’s famous garden, I was fascinated with Musnet’s story and his journey to becoming an artist.Artistic composition concepts like size and placement, warm shadows, cool light, highlights, and brushstrokes are all emphasized and well placed throughout the story. Take a friendly and likable orphaned mouse, place him in a beautifully rendered watercolor and ink medium with miniature Monet masterpieces and you get a stunning and engaging story of a mouse learning to become an artist.
